I was taking pictures for this post earlier this week, during a particularly heavy hail storm, when the postman called at the door. He, decked out weather-appropriately in his woolly hat and coat, me, in shorts and a sun top. I wish I could have captured the look on his face.
Pretty sure he thinks I’m crazy. Or really optimistic.
If only the weather matched my mood!
I’m not too sure where I first heard of the idea of a Summer box, but I remember thinking at the time that it was pretty genius really. I think it appeals to the organiser in me – this notion of gathering up as you go, and buying piece by piece. I’ve been doing it for a while now, and it’s something I’ve applied to the kids’ wardrobes too. It really spreads the cost (especially when they all take those freaking growth spurts in sync!) and means that by the time the new season rolls around I’ve lots of pretty things stashed away.
I started getting bits for this year when the new season stock first rolled in in January (I know – way too early to be thinking about the Summer, but there’s that optimist again! 🙂 ) and I’ve found that it not only stops me buying silly things that I’ll never wear in the sales, but also ensures that when we get that one freak boiling day at the start of the season (where is this day?? I think it has done a runner this year!) I’ll be spoilt for choice.
Anyway, most of what I’m wearing is still available if you fancy starting your own box this season. You’ll find the links below.
*A quick note on body image and blogging about these sorts of things!
I’m definitely more in my comfort zone when it comes to the family side of blogging, but I love clothes (I really, really do!) and a friend recently challenged me to write a bit more on that side of things. I don’t proclaim to be any expert, and I’m no model, that’s for sure, but it’s all part and parcel of what makes me, me I guess. I feel awkward posing and am always really nervous about pictures without my little three, or Ern, to distract attention. That’s also part and parcel of me, and whilst I wish I could have that super confidence, I think it’s just one of those things that bypassed me in the talents department. 😉 Anyhow, that’s all a very longwinded way of saying, this is just me – the clothes I buy and the way I wear them. I’m blatantly aware of my flaws and, truth be told, they’re all I see when I look at pictures of myself, but my thirties have taught me to respect the body that serves me so well. To own it a bit more and dress in what makes me happy.
There are bigger and more important things in life, right?
And, let’s face it, our harshest critic is very often the one who stares back at us in the mirror.
